Varun Dhawan definitely knows what it takes to set the ticket-counters rolling; all his films so far have been major hits and he continues his success run with his latest film, Judwaa 2. On the other hand, a content-driven film like Chef has almost faded at the box-office. Hollywood's much awaited release Blade Runner 2049 has also opened slow at the US box-office.
Director David Dhawan has yet again proved that nobody in the business can cash upon the comedy-entertainer genre better than him. His original film Judwaa, released two decades ago starring Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor and Rambha, was a massive hit then. The latest reboot, Judwaa 2, starring Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez and Taapsee Pannu, has turned out to be a major money-spinner and has kept the cash flowing in even during its second-week.
The film had already made Rs 100 crore on Friday, 6 October and as of Sunday, it has minted another Rs 18 crore at an average pace of Rs 8 crore per day. This is Dhawan's 5th film to enter the 100-crore club after Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Dilwale and ABCD2.
As there's no major release until Diwali, the film is definitely going to witness a bull market.
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted:
#Judwaa2 continues to dominate... New films/holdover titles pose no opposition... No major film till Diwali will prove advantageous...

#Judwaa2 [Week 2] Fri 4.25 cr, Sat 5.75 cr, Sun 8.10 cr. Weekend 2: ₹ 18.10 cr. Total: ₹ 116.18 cr. India biz. SUPERHIT. — taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) October 9, 2017
Saif Ali Khan-starrer Vijay Krishna Menon's film Chef, an official remake of Jon Favreau's 2014 Hollywood flick of the same name, hasn't been able to find its grip on the opening weekend. In spite of the positive reviews received for Khan's performance, the film has failed miserably. Adarsh, calling the film a "disaster", tweets:
#Chef is a DISASTER... Fri 1.05 cr, Sat 1.35 cr, Sun 1.60 cr. Total: ₹ 4 cr. India biz.

While Bollywood's business will likely be ruled by Varun Dhawan until the Diwali releases hit the screens, Hollywood has witnessed surprisingly low business with the release of the much-awaited film, Blade Runner 2049.
The film, starring screen legend Harrison Ford and current Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling, had the pedigree, the stars and the stellar reviews. But even though the highly touted sequel had seemingly everything going for it, something didn't click with audiences.
The big-budget, handsomely crafted sequel to the 1982 sci-fi classic opened surprisingly weak at the North American box office. According to studio estimates Sunday, 2049 grossed $31.5 million, a poor start for a movie that cost at least $150 million to make.
The problem Blade runner 2049 ran into is clear from opening-weekend data. The audience was overwhelmingly male (71 percent) and over the age of 25 (86 percent). The movie simply failed to pull in moviegoers beyond fans of the 1982 original.
