Jaipur: Congress senior leaders on Monday gheraoed electricity offices in 91 wards of the city for illegally imposing security charges on consumers.
The leaders in opposition during their demonstration also issued a 'warning letter' against chief minister Vasundra Raje to roll back the decision. Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee and president of Jaipur Congress, Pratap Singh Khachariyawas warned the officials in zone offices not to disconnect any connection of any consumer, if they do not deposit security charges. Khachariyawas alleged, "The electricity department has no right to impose security charges on bills. The state government is fleecing the residents."
He announced, "Congress will continue to protest till the state government rolls back its decision." They also announced that the party will go door-to-door and request residents not to deposit security charges. "The BJP government has already raised electricity charges exponentially. Moreover, it has added cess and other taxes in bills. The security charges is an additional burden and it's illegally imposed on residents," added Khachariyawas
Many residents along with Congress workers burnt the security charge slips in front of the electricity zone offices and pledged not to deposit it in future.
Congress party in the state will also burn the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah on Tuesday at the Collectorate Circle. The party is demanding a probe into alleged corruption by BJP president's son, Jay Shah.
