UGC modifies psychology syllabus, includes ‘Indian context’

The syllabus for the course graduation, post graduation and PhD levels has been changed “with special relevance to the Indian context”.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced that the syllabus has been revised by an expert committee for BA, BSc, MA, MSc and PhD courses in psychology. It said that the course syllabus was not rooted in the “national ethos” and hence has been changed.

“It had been noticed that Psychology, as taught in institutions of higher learning was neither keeping pace with the recent developments in the discipline nor fulfilling the societal needs,” the commission said in a notice. The syllabus for the course graduation, post graduation and PhD levels has been changed “with special relevance to the Indian context”. The commission has asked affiliated colleges and universities go through the new syllabus, which is available on the official website, and inculcate it within the current curriculum.
