In a big gesture, President Ram Nath Kovind, who arrived in Kerala, on Sunday, refused to take refuge under an umbrella amidst a downpour to take the salute and inspect the Guard of Honour given to him. The event occurred when the President reached Thiruvananthapuram at around 9:30 AM. Kerala governor P Sathasivam, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and others were also present for his reception. The security officials in an effort to protect the President from rains tried to provide a cover to him but he refused to shelter himself under an umbrella refuge and stood on the dais.

As per a PTI report, this was President’s maiden visit to Kerala where he attended a function at Mata Amritanandamayi Math in Kollam district and launched various welfare schemes. The report further adds that the function was organised as part of the 64th birthday celebrations of spiritual leader and the Math founder Mata Amritanandamayi, popularly called ‘Amma’.
