
Smriti Irani in Amethi Live Updates: Union Minister Smriti Irani is visiting the Congress bastion Amethi in Uttar Pradesh today. BJP President Amit Shah is also scheduled to arrive at Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha constituency on October 10. Their visits will come days after the Congress Vice President had visited the area. Irani had fought the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections unsuccessfully from Amethi against Gandhi. BJP is looking to wrest it from the Congress to give a telling blow to the rival party in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

1:55 PM: Meanwhile, former Uttar Pradesh minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati’s wife Maharaji Devi had alleged on Sunday that the Congress had fielded a candidate from Amethi only to ensure her husband’s defeat in the Assembly polls held in the state earlier this year.
1:50 PM: The Union Cabinet Minister of Textiles and Information and Broadcasting is likely to attend the launch of a FM station at Gauriganj and an initiative to save Gomti river near Pipri village, statement issued by the district administration said.
