New Delhi: A top Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist, Khalid, was killed by the security forces today in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla. He was believed to be main plotter behind the suicide attack last week near the Srinagar airport, in which one soldier was killed.
Reports say Khalid fired on a Special Operations Group team on patrol at Ladoora this morning. The soldiers fired back and also called for reinforcements, after which the terrorist was shot dead.
Khalid, trained in Pakistan, was apparently the commander in the group of 12 terrorists who crossed over recently. He was active mainly in Sopore in north Kashmir.
Sources say Khalid also played a role in the suicide attack on the District police lines in Pulwama a month ago, in which four paramilitary personnel and four cops were killed.
Khalid's name surfaced for the first time a year ago, when the army found a Jaish module in Baramulla.
Police officials had said then that the unit headed by Khalid was responsible for the attack on an army convoy in Baramulla two months before, in which two army men and one policeman was killed.
