Indore: DAVV sets up centre for cyber security

Indore: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) will now teach technical staff of government and private sectors how to defend data systems from cyber attacks. The university has established “Centre for cyber security and digital forensic studies & research” on UTD campus wherein training will be imparted on how to deal with hackers.

“As our dependency is increasing on the internet, it has become imperative to defend our data systems from cyber attacks. At our centre, training will be provided to technical staffers for dealing with cyber threats and pre-empt attacks,” centre incharge Prof Pratosh Bansal said. He said that with help of major IT companies, they are identifying areas which are vulnerable to cyber attacks and accordingly preparing training programme modules.

“Our attempt is to train working professionals to defend data systems from increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks.” The centre is aimed at promoting awareness and imparting general and specific training about cyber security, digital/cyber forensics and cyber operations from an interdisciplinary framework with or without collaboration with industry/other academic institutions.


It will provide training and orientation to IT security personnel in various organisation and IT professionals involved in electronic data processing activities in enterprises including Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) to improve security to minimise damages due to cyber security breaches.

The centre will also design courses for the judiciary, persecution, law enforcement agencies including defence personnel and tax enforcement agencies with a specific focus on topics related to homeland security and infrastructure security. Bansal said that the varsity will starting their first course in December. “Approval for launching the course has been obtained from vice chancellor. The maiden course will be for officials from public sector units, government and banks.”

The programme will be of one week duration for which classes will be held at Institute of Engineering and Technology where the centre has been established. “We will prepare customised programmes for whichever companies come to us with a demand for the same” Bansal said.
