BENGALURU: The parents of a young soldier, R Narendra, have contested the Indian Army's version of their son's death that he committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag on Sunday.

Narendra's mother Pushpa told New Indian Express that she did not believe that her son committed suicide. "He had made a video call on Sunday evening and had spoken as usual. He did not tell anything about any problems and he did not seem depressed," she said.

"If my son committed suicide let the Army officials show us the evidence. We will seek legal help to ascertain the exact cause of my son's death," Pushpa added.

Narendra R, a resident of  Rajagopalnagar in Bengaluru had joined army two years ago. He was found dead on Sunday and the family were alerted on early hours on Monday. The body will be brought to the city on Tuesday to conduct final rites.
