Four girls from SFS School and two students from De Paul School, Ukkunagaram, got selected for the International Ethnic Folklore Festival to be held in New Delhi from October 12 to 18.
After presenting Sambalpuri folk dance in the national-level contest, the students will now compete with 250 national and international artistes from India, Poland, Mexico, Indonesia, Iran, and Philippines and other countries in the international contest to be hosted by Shrustii Multicultural Centre.
Terming it a rare opportunity, V. Nynita, a Class VI student of SFS School, said the forum would help meet artistes from various countries and allow them to improve their performance. “This is the first time that we are moving to a different territory to perform,” says a visibly excited Nynita.
Sharing stage space with international artistes excites R.H. Tina, a Class VI student of the same school.
She says that she has been part of various inter-school contests held at divisional and district levels but this platform gives her a unique experience.
G. Dimple (Class VII) and P. Roopa Thanishka (Class V) of SFS School, say that their training in classical, folk and western dance forms for the past few months helped them gain a place in the international forum.
Similarly, V. Shyama Sowmyasri (Class VI) and Neha Akshaya (Class IV) of De Paul School, Ukkunagaram, feel equally excited to exhibit their dancing skills in the ensuing folklore festival.
