The former Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel has told BJP president Amit Shah that she does not want to contest the coming Assembly elections in the State as she is already over 75.

In her letter to Mr. Shah, she said the party should give young candidates a chance in the elections due in December.

Ms. Patel resigned as Chief Minister in 2016, saying she had crossed the age of 75.

She continues to be an MLA representing the Ghatlodia constituency.
