CUTTACK: A man was beaten to death on Sunday at Mangala Sahi under Madhupatna police limits over an alleged illicit love affair. The deceased has been identified as Basant Dora alias Dhapu of Bamphi Sahi under Purighat police limits.

Some locals found him in a pool of blood and informed police who rushed to the spot and started investigation. Police said, it looked like Dhapu’s head was stuck with an iron rod leading to his death. His motorcycle and mobile phone were also found near the body.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Dhapu, a married man, was in a relationship with the wife of one Subas Patra of Mangala Sahi. The woman’s family was opposed to this.
On Sunday, Dhapu had gone to Mangala Sahi to meet the woman when her family members attacked him. Meanwhile, Dhapu’s elder brother Susant Dora filed an FIR alleging that Basant had gone to his friend’s house at Mangala Sahi at about 9 am and around 12 noon, he was informed that Dhapu was dead.

Susant said, he was informed that Subas Patra, his brother Santosh and sisters-in-law Padmini and Basanti had beaten him to death with an iron pipe. Acting on the FIR, police registered a murder case and detained the four accused for interrogation, said DCP Akhilesvar Singh. After postmortem, the body was handed over to his family members and investigation is on, Singh added.
