‘Teach’ sets up a social media group

Four years after its launch, the Teach Charitable Society at Kalady here has taken the next big step in lending a helping hand to academically inclined but financially poor students in the city.

Launched with the aim of supporting such students in various ways till the time they graduate or get jobs, Teach supports 30 of them at present.

However, unable to accept requests from schools to support more students owing to limited resources, it decided to set up a social media group comprising subject experts, researchers, school teachers, and a few other people for sharing of knowledge. “The information shared on the group can be used by Teach for the benefit of its students as well as the school teachers to teach their other students,” M.P. Anilkumar, secretary, Teach, said.

New concepts and research, easy-to-follow techniques that help make the study of a topic easier, and other information that will be of use to students will be shared on the group.

Teach has also set up a reading club of students. The 30 students have been divided into five groups of six each and a team leader appointed to ensure the presence of the students in Teach activities. Also, once a student finishes reading a book, the team leader calls up the next person to ascertain their progress for facilitating book exchange between the members.

This year, Teach will not include more students in its initiative. Instead, it wants to focus more on strengthening its ties with the current students and their parents to tap the students’ potential to the maximum.

For this, Teach will divide the 30 students into three batches of 10 each, and depute two students in each batch to inquire periodically about the students and their academic progress.

Team work

This will help improve team work between the students. Moreover, all Teach members will visit the students’ houses for establishing a personal rapport with them.

A Teach resource centre was inaugurated by Kerala State Women’s Commission member E.M. Radha. G.S. Pradeep, quiz master and anchor, gave away prizes to students — Abhijith A., Bhagyalakshmi H., Abhishek P.M., and Ambili Devi C. — for their good show in the SSLC examination.

A book was presented to Abdullah for his book appreciation write-up, and to Vishnu for promoting his talent for drawing on the occasion.
