BENGALURU: A 17-year-old student was found dead in a toilet of his college hostel in Bellandur on Saturday. Police said the cause of death is yet to be ascertained and they are waiting for the medical report.
Sarthak Puranik, son of Srikant and Sucheta Puranik from Dharwad, was a Class 12 student at Sri Chaitanya School and College at HSR Layout. He was a resident of the school hostel for the past two years.
Police said the incident was reported early on Saturday morning. Around 6.20 am, Sarthak went to the washroom but did not return for a long time. On realising that Sarthak had been gone for almost two hours, other students living in the hostel went to the washroom, but they found that the door was locked from inside. They called out his name but there was no response. A few of the students then peeped through the ventilation and saw Sarthak lying on the floor.
The students immediately alerted staff members of the hostel, who broke open the door and rushed Sarthak to a private hospital, police said. A doctor at the hospital said Sarthak had been dead for a few hours. The police were then alerted about Sarthak’s death and they shifted the body to St John’s Hospital for a postmortem. Bellandur police have registered a case of unnatural death and are waiting for the postmortem report to ascertain the cause of death.A police officer said there were no injuries on Sarthak’s body.
