The depression located over Bengal and adjoining North Bay of Bengal this morning has quickly intensified into a deep depression, only a step below a tropical cyclone.
But its current coordinates over land may not give the fuel to intensify further and go on to become a full-fledged cyclone, which is not unusual during October in the Bay.
Yesterday, the prevailing monsoon had woken up from the slumber over the past couple of days to throw up a low-pressure area in line with original forecasts by India Met Department.
The 'low' had gone on to intensify a round to become 'well-marked' this morning and further to a depression before being declared as a deep depression.
The deep depression could now start weakening over Jharkhand and adjoining East Bihar. But it would amplify a persisting circulation over West Maharashtra and off Mumbai in due course.
Meanwhile, IMD has forecast for today a warning of heavy to very heavy rain for Bengal, East Jharkhand and North Odisha as also Konkan & Goa, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and North Interior Karnataka.
Squally winds with speeds reaching up to 55 km/hr are forecast off and along the coasts of Bengal and North Odisha. Fishermen are advised not to venture out of these coasts.
A string of thunderstorms has been forecast to hover over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
