Raking up the issue of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah's son, Jay Shah's business soaring under the incumbent government, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Monday alleged crony capitalism in the Narendra Modi government.
On his second visit in a month to poll-bound Gujarat, Gandhi said that when it came to helping the ruling party was favouring only a handful of industrialists. "When Amit Shah's son's company had nothing for 10-12 years, how come he started earning only after 2014? How did his business jump to Rs 80 crore from Rs 50,000 within a few months? This is 'Make in India'," Gandhi said in a public address.
After visiting Saurashtra on his first visit, Rahul Gandhi is now on a three-day tour of Central Gujarat where on Monday he met farmers, small businessmen and traders in areas like Kheda, Nadiad and Vadodara.
The Congress vice president began his latest tour by visiting a 250 year-old-temple in Nadiad, and later interacted with the locals. Speaking at a public gathering in Nadiad, Gandhi said, "The PM said he would not be involved in corruption nor allow anyone else. He said that wanted to be a chowkidar and not a PM. Where is this chowkidar now? Where has he gone?"
Later, taking a dig at the development claims by the ruling party, Rahul Gandhi addressed the crowd saying, "(Former NDA Prime Minister Atal) Vajpayeeji said the Congress had done a lot for development of the nation. When the current government speak ill of India's development, they are speaking ill of your ancestors and you, all because development is not by any leader or any party but the people of India."
On the issue of job creation claims made by the Modi government, Rahul Gandhi said, "Modiji said that he alone would provide employment. While China provides for 50,000 new jobs daily, in India it is only 450. Now, Modiji must accept that he has failed."
After Nadiad, Gandhi visited Sardar Patel's home in Karamsad. Over the next two days, Gandhi is will be visiting other areas in Central Gujarat region including Chhota Udepur, Dahod and Panchmahals as part of his Yuva Rojgar Khedut Adhikar Navsarjan Yatra.
