Boat capsizes at Gothuruthu

KOCHI: A passenger boat capsized at Gothuruthu on Sunday. However, the timely intervention of locals, the police and the Fire and Rescue Services prevented the occurrence of any casualties, and the 15 passengers and the driver and conductor of the boat were rescued.

According to Vadakkekara CI M K Murali, the boat transporting passengers from Chathedom Thuruthippuram to Gothuruthu capsized at Kurumbathuruthu at 6.30 pm. “The inquiry is on. We have already registered a case against the driver and the boat owner,” he said.Meanwhile, some of the locals alleged the passenger ferry was actually a fishing boat which had been converted as a ferry.
