UPSC CMSE 2018: The Union Public Services Commission has announced a change in the exam pattern of Combined Medical Services Exam (CMSE) from the next year. The ‘General Ability Paper’ has been dispensed with from the examinations. The body has also issued a notification about the changes in the pattern and syllabus for the exam on its official website. The UPSC notified this on its official website that these changes will be made effective from CMSE 2018 and both Paper 1 and Paper 2 will be two-hours long computer-based exam. The exam will have negative marking for each wrong answer. Candidates passing the computer-based exam will be allowed to give Interview/Personality Test.
Paper 1 – The part 1 of the exam will have 120 questions, 96 will be from General Medicine while 24 from Paediatrics.
Paper 2 – There are no major changes in the pattern of part 2 of the exam. Paper 2 will be of 250 questions and have 40 each question from Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics and preventive and social medicine.

As per an Indian express report, the personality test, which will carry 100 marks, will help in assessing the personality of candidates such as their intellectual curiosity and character integrity.
