The Australian Cricket team was dealt with a huge blow after their skipper Steven Smith was ruled out of the three-match T20I series against India due to a shoulder injury. During the first T20 at Ranchi it was announced that Smith will return to home and David Warner will lead the team in his absence.

Now, the Aussie captain Steve Smith has returned home and expressed his gratitude to India on his social media handles. Smith writes, “India it’s been an absolute pleasure. The One Day tour didn’t go to plan and after injuring my shoulder in the last game I’m unfortunately heading home to give it some rest and rehab. I look forward to watching the boys turn the tides in the next 2 T20s.”

The Australian team are having a tough time in India. They were outclassed in all except one game of the five-match ODI series. Earlier, this year they were also defeated 2-1 in the four-match Test series. This was later followed by them being knocked out of the ICC Champions Trophy in the group stage itself despite being one of the favourites. To note, Smith has been arguably Australia’s best batsman this year but his position as captain hinges upon how they perform in the upcoming Ashes. The first Ashes Test begins in Brisbane on 23 November.
