KOCHI: A 12-year-old boy was killed after a tipper rammed the scooter on which he was riding pillion with his mother at Maradu here on Saturday morning.
The boy, identified as Vishal V. Nair, 12, was a student of Gregorian Public School. His mother Raji A.R. sustained minor injuries in the accident.
The tragedy happened right in front of the boy’s father who was following them on a bike.
The family was heading to Thripunithura from their home near Maradu.
Though the boy was rushed to a nearby private hospital, he was declared brought dead. The body was handed over to relatives after autopsy.
Meanwhile, local residents waylaid the tipper and handed over its driver, Amal, 22, to the police.
Driver booked
Amal, a native of Perumbavoor, was booked under Sections 304 (Causing death by negligence), 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 279 (Rash driving on a public way) of the IPC.
Vishal was the younger of the two siblings. His brother Vishnu V. Nair is a Standard 10 student at Gregorian Public School.
