At a time when civic officials have turned a blind eye towards pothole-ridden roads, a police constable has been helping commuters by filling potholes near Gunj Circle here. On Thursday, Amaresh V. Hiremath, 31, attached to Raichur Traffic Police Station, noticed motorists struggling to negotiate potholes. He then bought murram (sand) by paying ₹1,500 and with a little help from some labourers, filled the potholes.

A motorist said, “We must appreciate and thank the constable for what he has done.” Aspiring to be an administrative officer, Mr. Hiremath is preparing for KAS final exam after successfully clearing the prelims.

Mr. Hiremath, who recently passed the exam for the post of Reserve Police Inspector, cleared First Division Assistant and Second Division Assistant exam in 2014, but remained with the department.
