US President Donald Trump on Saturday said that in dealing with North Korea, “only one thing will work”. This comes after previous administrations had tried to communicate with Pyongyang but without results, according to Reuters. In a tweet President donald Trump wrote, ” Presidents and their administrations have been talking to North Korea for 25 years, agreements made and massive amounts of money paid.”…Hasn’t worked, agreements violated before the ink was dry, making fools of U.S. negotiators. Sorry, but only one thing will work!”

Though his comments were not clear as to what he was referring to, his words seemed to be a further suggestion that military action was on his mind. On prior occassions, President Trump had mentioned that US would “totally destroy” North Korea if necessary to protect itself and its allies from Pyongyang’s nuclear threats. Earlier this week, during a meeting with top U.S. military leaders and their spouses, Trump told reporters it was the “calm before the storm.”

Sarah Sanders, White House spokesperson referred to Iran and North Korea the following day when she was asked about the President’s comments. The Pentagon when asked about Trump’s tweet said that the Defense Department’s job was to “present the president military options and carry out orders.” On several occassions, Trump has come out clear about his distaste for a dialogue with North Korea.
