Noida-Delhi drive to go signal-free

NOIDA: If you live on the Noida Expressway, your commute to Delhi will get signal-free by Monday. The two main traffic signals on Dadri Main Road, one after Film City, and other outside Sector 15A, will be shut down, and cuts for U-turn and right-turn will be blocked.
On the Delhi-Noida side, the first red light - in this case, outside Sector 15A - will remain, to allow Sector 15A residents to come out of their sector and join the flow of traffic towards the Expressway. But the second one, just ahead of Film City, will be switched off.
In essence, traffic movement on the road will become unidirectional, with no room for a U-turn.
While this will speed up the traffic flow and will be of great help to those who live or work on the Expressway, it will mean a longer commute for residents of Sector 15A.
At present, a resident of Sector 15A who wants to go to, say, Mayur Vihar, needs to only come out of his sector, cross the road and turn right. But now he will have to come out, turn left to join the Expressway traffic, keep driving, and take the DND loop to get to the other side of the road, a good 5km extra drive. "It's an experiment which we plan to do on Sunday or Monday. This was done earlier and was successful. We plan to block the cuts with temporary barriers and close the red lights for those commuters travelling to Delhi via Noida-Delhi carrigeway of the Dadri main road. The ones going inside the sectors 15 A and B will have to stop," SP (traffic) Anil Jha told TOI.
