Says CPI(M) supporting PFI with Vengara byelection in mind

The BJP has sought a probe into the alleged involvement of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader P.K. Kunhalikutty, MP, in the Marad riots.

Party State general secretary M.T. Ramesh told the media here on Sunday that there had been an unholy nexus between the National Democratic Front (NDF), which had been accused of fomenting trouble during the riots, and Mr. Kunhalikutty. “This was revealed by IUML leader M.K. Muneer to Wikileaks,” he said.

Mr. Ramesh was here as part of the BJP’s Janaraksha Yatra.

The BJP leader alleged that Marad riots were “an experiment for jihadi activities” in Kerala. Though an inquiry commission had found that leaders of the CPI(M), Congress, and IUML had involvement, these parties were keeping silence about it so far.

The BJP leader said the late E. Ahamed had destroyed crucial evidence related to the case and there should be a probe into his role too. Mr. Ramesh said there was an unholy nexus between the IUML and the CPI(M) and both the parties were helping “jihadists.” It had been reported that the NDF, the predecessor to the Popular Front of India (PFI), had terror links.

He alleged that the government’s latest stand in the Supreme Court in the Hadiya case was ample proof of the collusion between the CPI(M) and the PFI. “How can CPI(M) State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan come to a conclusion that there is no need for a ban on the PFI? An anti-national organisation should be fought legally, not democratically. How can the CPI(M), which functions well within the law of this land, can support the PFI?” he asked

Mr. Ramesh alleged that the PFI was a “recruitment agency” for the Islamic State. The CPI(M) was supporting the outfit to get some votes in the Vengara byelection, he added.
