A fast kept for the safety of husbands, Karva Chauth is the celebration of the marital bond but societal norms have limited this celebration to women only. Not just Twinkle Khanna but Ayushmann Khurrana too was in the mood of breaking stereotypes related to Karva Chauth this year. Meanwhile, Sridevi Boney Kapoor also posed with Raveena Tandon and Shilpa Shetty in a beautiful picture on Instagram. Here’s how Bollywood is celebrating Karva Chauth.

Twinkle Khanna, who recently mentioned her stand on Karva Chauth, took to Twitter yet again and wrote, “Scientists studying longest living mammals, bowhead whales found for a long life what is needed is a slow metabolism & not wives who fast:)”

MOM actor Sridevi also shared a picture with Raveena Tandon and Shilpa Shetty celebrating the auspicious Karvachauth day. She wrote, “Happy Karva Chauth! ❤🙏🏻.” All the happy women look bright decked up in the ethnic attire.

Taking a stand against the patriarchal tradition of only the wife keeping the fast, actor Ayushmann Khurrana shared a picture of his palm on which he got his wife’s name written with henna. As if that was not enough to win over millions of hearts, he also revealed that he has kept a fast for his wife too. How romantic! He wrote, “त से ताहिरा. Let’s celebrate equality and change this patriarchal tradition. Join her if u can’t dissuade her from fasting. #KarvaChauth” By the way, he realised that this fast is not as easy as thought. An hour later, the actor tweeted, “I get slow when I fast. This is not easy.”

Amitabh Bachchan explained the ritual of Karva Chauth to his fans. He wrote, “the day of ‘karva chauth’ .. the day the wives shall fast for their husbands’ long and prosperous life .. they shall break their fast after seeing the moon at night, through a sieve .. they shall dress in their finery the entire day .. do prayers and rituals in the early hours .. and when the moon is sighted, the prayers are repeated.

Husbands shall remain by them the entire day .. trying their best to keep them entertained so their minds are driven away from consumption of and the temptation to eat .. the husbands seldom succeed .. the wives are stronger and do better than the men .. the men at times and in some homes keep a sympathetic fast too .. most do not ..

The sanctity of the festive day is ever maintained .. the sighting of the moon has always been a trial .. attendants are asked to perch themselves at vantage points so they can sight the moon at the earliest .. on most occasions the Moon plays tricks .. hides itself behind large dark clouds, making it even more torturous for the wives to hold back .. I think this is a little unfair on the part of the Moon .. but its status is such in all our lives that one dare not take umbrage.”

Meanwhile, female leads of Bollywood have geared up for the celebrations. Shilpa Shetty celebrated the occasion on the sets of her show Aunty Boli Lagao Boli.

Celina Jaitley, who recently gave birth to her second set of twins, is celebrating Karva Chauth in London. She posted a picture with her husband and wrote, “When we get to the end of our lives together, the houses we had, the cars we drove, all the things we possessed won’t matter.. all that will matter is that I had you and you had me.. and all that we overcame together… here’s wishing you all togetherness and love and good health for you family and each.”
