Report, Day 2: Dimuth Karunaratne made a career-best 196 as Sri Lanka racked up 482 against Pakistan on day two of the second Test on Saturday.
Pakistan were 51 without loss in reply in the day-night Test. Sami Aslam was 30 not out, and Shan Masood on 15.
Sri Lanka, a surprise winner of the first Test in Abu Dhabi, can become the first team to beat Pakistan in a Test series in the United Arab Emirates if it doesn't lose this second match.
Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed and Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal.
They could have enough runs on the board.
They started the day on 254-3 and looked like they could carry their bats to stumps on day two, until opener Karunaratne was sixth man out, an inside edge deflecting on to his stumps just before dinner.
Karunaratne moved seamlessly from 133 overnight to 196, 10 more than his previous highest score, almost two years to the day against West Indies in Galle. Karunaratne appeared tired after facing 405 balls and hitting 19 boundaries and a six.
He'd resumed on day two beside captain Dinesh Chandimal, whose first scoring shot gave him his half-century. Chandimal, who was dropped on 1, was finally out for 62, bowled leg before by Yasir Shah. Ironically, video replay showed the ball missing the stumps.
Chandimal and Karunaratne combined for 146.
Chandimal was followed by Niroshan Dickwella, who hit 52 off 53 balls in his sixth half-century in eight Tests.
By then, Pakistan quick Mohammad Amir was back in the stands, struggling after bowling only three overs with a left shin injury which forced him to rest on Friday.
The workload was passed on to Shah, who bowled 55.5 overs, taking 6-184, and Abbas.
After Karunaratne was out, Sri Lanka slid. Dilruwan Perera got to his sixth Test half-century, 58, before he was bowled by Shah.
Shah and Abbas mopped up the tail. Abbas finished with 2-100 off 33 overs.
