This year, the Movie Mela, a highlight of the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, was held six days before the opening film. The extravagant affair created quite a buzz among moviegoers ahead of the Jio MAMI 19th Mumbai Film Festival.
Here are five moments that stood out from the day-long treat for cinema buffs.

In the concluding session of the Movie Mela, titled Big Talk, filmmaker Karan Johar hosted a session with arguably two of the finest actors of the current crop and his frequent collaborators - Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.
Despite promising that he will never address the elephant in the room - nepotism again (after facing flak for taking a potshot at Kangana Ranaut, who accused him of being the 'flag-bearer of nepotism') at the IIFA Awards), Johar brought the issue to the fore once again. He asked Ranbir and Alia where they stand on the issue, since they have been admired for their acting chops despite being from influential film families.
“I do believe it exists. But I don’t want to feel apologetic about it. Everyone wants their posterity to utilize the resources that they make available to them. I don’t want to feel sorry for being my father’s daughter," said Alia. Ranbir echoed the same thought when he pointed out how he might only get his first film through his family but ultimately, the audience decides. "As my father says, 'In both politics and Bollywood, it is the people who decide whom they want to see out there'."

"Dates? Just look at us. Do you think we will have a dates problem," said Arshad Warsi, as the audience erupted into laughter, taking a potshot at the perennial jobless state of most of the Golmaal actors. He joined by his co-stars from Golmaal Again, the fourth installment of the blockbuster franchise that is slated to release this Diwali - Ajay Devgn, Parineeti Chopra, Kunal Kemmu, Shreyas Talpade and Tusshar Kapoor, along with director Rohit Shetty.

While listing their top six self-composed songs over the years, music director duo had an interesting trivia to share about the popular dance number 'Chammak Challo' from Anubhav Sinha's 2011 superhero film Ra.One. As Shah Rukh Khan roped in rapper Akon for the song 'Criminal', Vishal-Shekhar ended up using him for the more popular 'Chammak Challo' as well.
"Shekhar and I were just jamming. I was playing with a tune that we came up with a day before and he was singing RD Burman's song 'Dil Ye Na Khel Hai Dildar Ka'. Out of nowhere, we came up with this irresistible track of 'Chammak Challo'," said Vishal Dadlani.
Among the other handpicked songs were 'Sheila Ki Jawani' from Farah Khan's 2010 heist comedy Tees Maar Khan, 'Aankhon Mein Teri' from Farah's 2007 reincarnation drama Om Shanti Om, 'Nashe Si Chadh Gayi' from Aditya Chopra's 2016 romantic comedy Befikre, 'Allah Ke Bande' from Shashanka Ghosh's 2003 film Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II and 'Tu Aashiqui Hai' from Sujoy Ghosh's 2003 musical Jhankar Beats.

Ahead of the release of her next, Suresh Triveni's slice-of-life drama Tumhari Suluon 24 November, Vidya Balan compared the role to that of Silk Smitha in Milan Luthria's 2011 semi-autobiographical drama The Dirty Picture. She said that her role of a homemaker-turned-Radio Jockey in the former is not as sexually charged as her milestone role of Silk, but both the characters have an underlying similarity, of not giving a hoot about how they are being perceived. Both of them are go-getters, in their own right.
Anurag Kashyap discloses why he has never had rules imposed on film set

Barring one. The filmmaker revealed that the only time he imposed any rule on his film set was during the 2009 romantic black comedy Dev D. "The rule was that nobody will fall in love. And then I broke the rule," said Kashyap, hinting at his eventual relationship with actress Kalki Koechlin, who made her debut with that film.
Kashyap was joined by Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari, Lipstick Under My Burkha helmer Alankrita Shrivastava, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani director Ayan Mukerji and Tubelight hemer Kabir Khan in the Directors' Panel of this year's Movie Mela.
The Jio MAMI 19th Mumbai Film Festival will take place from 12 to 18 October.
