THANE: Residents from the lake city have some reason to smile as the drastic climate change has led to a drop in vegetable prices.
The rate of vegetables like cabbage, lady finger, cauliflower, tomatoes and many more more have dropped by around 50% to 60% since the onset of monsoon in June.
City vendors pegged the drop in prices to a good quality of produce that has been arriving in the markets after the rains. Yashwant Patil of Kalyan's Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC), said, "This year, the interior regions of the state received good rainfall. Since two weeks, a steadily flow of supply of vegetables is being seen. The prices have dropped because the quantity of stock available is more. But the price of peas have increased from Rs 80 to Rs 120 as this is the season in which they are grown."
The price of coriander also dropped by 60% from Rs 100 to Rs 40 per kg. Traders believe the fall in prices will be constant at least this month.
