SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir’s former chief minister and opposition National Conference working president Omar Abdullah and Pakistan-born singer and music composer Adnan Sami are engaged in a spat on social networking site Twitter over singer’s musical concert in Srinagar.

Adnan Sami, who has been granted Indian citizenship, performed the musical concert on the banks of world famous Dal Lake at SKICC, Srinagar on Saturday evening.

The musical concert, which was not open but restricted to VIPs and other invited guests, was jointly organised by J&K Government and Union Ministry of Home Affairs to promote tourism in Kashmir and send a message that Kashmir was a safe tourist destination.

The Twitter war began when a photo showed empty seats at Adnan Sami's musical concert in Srinagar.

While responding to the tweet on empty seats,  tech-savvy Omar tweeted, “The empty seats and delayed start are showing Kashmir for what it is - empty hotels, poor governance and general public despondency.”

In another tweet, he said, “That’s a real pity. I hope people have filled those seats now. For an evening they can let the music transport them to a more peaceful place”

Adnan Sami took exception to Omar’s tweet and posting pictures of the concert on his Twitter account.

“Bro ur a former CM.  U shouldn’t be so unnerved by a music concert. U obviously have bad sources who lie 2 U – here are the photos,” he tweeted.

Omar replied, “How does hoping you have a houseful suggest I’m unnerved? I’m glad people got to enjoy an evening of music. I used to like yours at one time”.

Adnan Sami shot back with the post,  “Oh please Omar! U retweeting ppls photos like a sadistic sore loser speaks volumes of ur lack of stature & pettiness. Up ur game- Its music!”

“Aren’t you a big enough star? Do you really need the column inches in a gossip piece “Omar-Adnan spar”? I don’t. Enjoy Srinagar. Good night,” replied Omar.

Sami replied saying, “Ur fickle mind should know that it is not about being a Star. It’s about coming together for the purpose of promoting peace, love and harmony.”

In response, Omar tweeted, “Like you said right in the beginning - I am a former CM and so I’ll ignore your 7-8 insults in 3 tweets. Thanks for coming to Srinagar. Stay safe”.

“So you finally realised huh! Der aye durust aye,” tweeted Adnan in response.

The singer and music composer today posted clippings of newspaper coverage about his musical concert, which he had started with famous Bollywood song "Mai Sirf Tera Mehboob.. Tu Meri Mehbooba".

During the musical concert, Adnan said he has a very deep connection with Jammu and Kashmir. "Not only because my mother is from Jammu but I learnt Hindustani classical from santoor maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, who hails from Jammu”.

The musical concert was held amidst tight security measures.
