Couple hangs to death in their house

Tirupur: A couple, both contract workers with the city corporation, committed suicide by hanging in their house at TMC Colony on Palladam Road here on Saturday. The police are yet to ascertain the reason that forced the duo to take the extreme step.

The deceased were identified as M Balamurugan, 43, and his wife B Kalaivani, 33. Balamurugan was a driver and his wife a sanitary worker with the civic body. Both were employed on a contract basis.

Balamurugan and Kalaivani were married for 15 years with three school-going children, said a police officer. On Saturday, the couple reported for duty as usual and returned home. They were alone at the house as the elder son had left for a relative's house and the remaining two had gone to their grandmother's house.

When Balamurugan didn't answer his brother-in-law Abhimanyu's phone call, the latter visited the couple's house and found them hanging from the ceiling of their house. He immediately alerted the police, who sent the bodies to hospital for postmortem.

The Tirupur South police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
