We had said we will study all aspects relating to GST for three months, including the shortcomings. And thus, the decisions were taken with consensus at the GST council,” he said. He also said that the changes in the GST regime have been hailed across the country as they kindled the festive mood of Diwali a fortnight before it is celebrated. “I am happy that the changes have been welcomed in one voice in every corner of the country,” the Indian Express quoted the PM as saying.

PM Modi is on his two-day tour to Gujarat and was speaking at Dwarka yesterday. Before starting his trip, he prayed at the famous Dwarkadheesh temple. PM’s visit to Gujarat came in the wake of the polls which is scheduled to be held in coming next two months, reported the Indian Express. On Friday, the GST Council announced relief for small and medium businesses on filing and payment of taxes. It made sweeping changes and also eased rules for exporters and cut tax rates on 27 items of common use, reported the Indian Express. PM Modi was quoted as saying “When there is trust in a government and when policies are made with the best intentions, it is natural for people to support us, for the sake of the nation.” He added, “I can experience this and I am thankful to the people of the country for the way they have welcomed our effort to make simple tax simpler.”
