Four Durga idols will be preserved at an art gallery run by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA), the statutory planning and development authority for Kolkata metropolitan area.
'Forum for Durgotsab' member Partha Ghosh said today the four idols will be kept for a year at the gallery, which is located near Rabindra Sarobar.
After a year these will be replaced by idols from among those to be seen during next year's Durga Puja.
"We are giving preference to idols made of metal, wood and other materials as clay idols may decay with the passage of time," he said.
The 'Forum for Durgotsab' is a platform of 300 prominent crowd-puller community Durga Pujas in the city.
The renovation work of the art gallery, set up in 2012 for preservation of representative art work in the city including Durga Puja idols, is presently on and will be over in three months, forum member and one of the selectors of the idols, Kajal Sarkar said.
A KMDA official said once the renovation work was completed the idols could be put in a proper manner.
