Says Sridhar died of ‘sudden cardiac arrest’ in Cambodia

S. Dhanalakshmi, 23, of Kancheepuram on Saturday submitted a memorandum to the district administration, the district police and the judicial magistrate court, Kancheepuram, seeking their help to bring the corpse of her father D. Sridhar, who had been declared a proclaimed offender and who had reportedly passed away in Cambodia to India.

In the memorandum, she claimed that her father had gone into hiding after he was declared a proclaimed offender by the judicial magistrate court in 2016. The family members remained in the dark about his whereabouts until they received a call from her brother Santhosh from London on October 4 stating that Sridhar had been admitted to a hospital in Cambodia in a serious condition.

Mr. Santhosh reportedly said he received this information from the personal cook of their father, Devendhran, who stays with Sridhar. Subsequently, she claimed, she and two advocates rushed to Cambodia only to witness the corpse of Sridhar lying at the mortuary of Khema Clinic of Excellence, Phnom Penh. As per the death certificate, the deceased was brought to the clinic at around 10.05 p.m. on October 4 from a hotel for treatment for “sudden cardiac arrest” and passed away at 10.35 p.m., Ms. Dhanalakshmi claimed.

Criminal origins

Inquiries with the police reveal that several cases of extortion and acquisition of properties from third parties through coercion are pending against Sridhar, who started out as a bootlegger.
