69-year-old Bollywood director Kundan Shah passed away due to a heart attack at his Mumbai residence. The director who has given many memorable films like ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron’ (1983), ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’ (1993) took his last breath early morning on Saturday. The director has always been known for his solid films and television shows.

Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron (1983)
Kundan Shah had directed his first film Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron (1983), which turned out to be a classic of Hindi Cinema. By this film, the maker came to be known as the pioneer of satirical comedy in the Indian film industry. For this film, the first-time director also won the National Film Award – Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director.
Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1993)
Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa turned out to be the landmark film for Shah Rukh Khan’s career. All thanks to Kundan Shah for bringing versatility to SRK’s lover boy image from this classic film. Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa is still considered as the most watched film on television as it has got an identity of cult-classic.
Kya Kehna (2000)
Kya Kehna is itself a special film for Preity Zinta and Kundan Shah as well. The story of a teenage girl who becomes pregnant before marriage appealed to the audiences. Many people also think that the film was released way before its time. After all, Kundan Shah knew how to bring the best content on celluloid.
Nukkad
Apart from films, Kundan Shah also directed one of the most famous TV series of Doordarshan era, Nukkad. It starred Dilip Dhawan, Rama Vij, Pavan Malhotra, Sangeeta Naik, Avtar Gill in lead roles. The serial received tremendous response from the viewers and some of the characters such as Khopdi, Kaderbhai and Ghanshu Bhikari became household names. Nukkad was based on everyday issues of lower-income people and often revolved around one or two specific characters.
Wagle Ki Duniya
Kundan Shah’s yet another TV serial, Wagle Ki Duniya was a popular comedy sitcom on Indian television which aired for the first time from 1988 to 1990 on state-run Doordarshan channel. The show was based on characters created by noted cartoonist, R. K. Laxman, especially “the common man”, and focused on issues of middle-class Indians. It starred Anjan Srivastav as a bumbling sales clerk in a multinational and Bharati Achrekar as his wife. The serial is still remembered by many people.
