Jaipur: A severe power crisis is looming large in the state. Following the shortage of coal for power production, the Jaipur discom has decided to start load-shedding from Sunday.

Except for Jaipur city, all district headquarters and nagar palikas of 12 districts that fall under Jaipur discom will face a two-hour scheduled power cut from 9am to 11am starting Sunday.

Domestic consumers in the rural areas of these districts will face a three-hour power cut from 11am to 2pm. In the agriculture sector, the power cut will be extended to five hours.

This load-shedding has been forced during the festive season as power production in the state is being cut down by 3,000MW.

According to Jaipur discom officials, the power situation in the state is expected to improve by next week and the load-shedding would be discontinued before Diwali.

The state is presently reeling under a power shortage of 720 lakh units per day. This has been largely due to the shortage of coal experienced at the national level. This has affected the production capacity of thermal power plants in the state.

According to Rajasthan Power Development Corporation, the Surajgarh thermal power station, which has a total capacity of 1,500MW, is only producing 730MW.

The Kota super critical thermal power station, with a total capacity of 1,240MW, is producing only 600MW. Against its capacity of 1,000MW, the Chabbra thermal power plant is generating only 635MW while the Kali Sindhi thermal power plant is generating 616MW against a capacity of 1,200MW.

Similarly, Adani Power Rajasthan Ltd is generating 616MW instead of 1,200MW while the two units of the Raj West Power Station have completely shut down.
