3 women among 5 killed in lightning

Five persons including three women were killed in lightning in separate incidents in Dumka district today, police sources said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ashok Kumar Singh said three persons including a woman were killed in Jermundi police station limits.


While a 65-year-old man and his 14-year-old grandson Vicky Kumar were killed in Jermundi which experienced torrential rain accompanied by lightning today afternoon, a 20-year-old woman was killed in thunderbolt in Banwara of the same police station.

She was returning home after taking bath in a river when the lightning struck her.

In another incident, two persons including a 10-year-old girl were killed in Block tola under Gopikandar police station.

The victims were identified as 55-year-old Mangal Maharani and the minor girl Rakhi Kumari.

They were returning after collecting firewood in a jungle near Bhuskidangal village, police said.
