Erode: A 21-year-old history-sheeter, who escaped from the Kerala police last month, was caught travelling without ticket in a train at Erode railway junction here on Saturday.
The arrested was identified as S Zamseer, of Kerala. He was wanted in various criminal cases, including murder attempt, burglary, chain snatching and car theft in Kannur, Kasaragod and other parts of Kerala.
Zamseer escaped from the Kerala police on September 8 while he was being taken to a court in Balla, Kasaragod, said a Railway Protection Force (RPF) official in Erode. The Kerala police had subsequently launched a manhunt for him and also issued look-out notices to police stations and RPF to facilitate his arrest.
On Saturday, RPF constables Ramkumar, Krishnan and Prabhu were on a patrol at the Erode railway junction when they spotted Zamseer in Chemmozhi Express.
On suspicion, they questioned Zamseer and found that he was travelling without ticket. On further inquiry, he confessed that he was wanted by the Kerala police, said an RPF official. The RPF team then arrested Zamseer and seized from him a mobile phone and a gold chain.
The Erode RPF, meanwhile, alerted the Kerala police who took custody of Zamseer in the evening. "He was hiding in Mysuru for the past month," they said.
