Madduvalasa reservoir receives heavy inflows in Srikakulam district

Srikakulam district officials heaved a sigh of relief with the improvement in weather condition across the district. The district witnessed heavy rains on Thursday and Friday, causing untold miseries to the people.

However, there was relief on Saturday although the Visakhapatnam Cyclone Warning Centre predicted heavy rains in many mandals, including Itchapuram and Palasa. Normalcy was restored in several villages, including Koppara, Kondachakarapalli and other places, which were affected with the heavy inflows into Madduvalasa reservoir from Vegavati river. With the directive from Srikakulam Collector K. Dhanunjya Reddy, revenue and irrigation officials took up steps and ensured normal condition in the villages.

Mandal committees

He asked the officials to appoint mandal-level committees since the district had witnessed many disasters in October and November in previous years.

Meanwhile, the situation improved in Vizianagaram district too. Agriculture activity was brisk in many places, including S.Kota, Makkuva and Bobbili, which received more than 12 cm rainfall in the last few days.

Vizianagaram Collector Vivek Yadav monitored the situation on Saturday and asked the officials to be alert in the next couple of days with the prediction of heavy rains in the district.
