The wee hours of Saturday brought a sad news for the Indian film fraternity as ace filmmaker Kundan Shah breathed his last at his Bandra residence. The filmmaker, aged 69, died after suffering a heart attack.

It was Kundan Shah who tried to transmit his Chaplinesque idealism and the Tramp’s tragicomic persona on Shah Rukh Khan with Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa and used him as if he was his very own Raj Kapoor. He gave Indian cinema and television the gift of satirical comedy. He directed movies like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Kya Kehna, and Dil Hai Tumhara. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro brought him the prestigious National Film Award.
