Six held for abduction of youth

BHUBANESWAR: Commissionerate Police arrested six persons, including three students, for kidnapping a second year MTech student from Jagamara in the City on Thursday. Anuj Jha, who is studying in a private college here, was abducted around 1:30 pm on Thursday.According to a complaint filed by Anuj’s relative Kunal Goswami at Khandagiri police station, the abductors had phoned him and demanded a ransom of `10 lakh to release him.
Police registered a case and started investigation by tracking the phone number from which Goswami received the call. By late night police had laid their hands on the abductors and rescued Jha from an isolated spot at Nakhara. Police also nabbed the six miscreants involved in the crime.
The arrested are Dev Arpit Mishra (22) of Kharavel Nagar, Priya Ranjan Mallick alias Bapu (29) of Khandagiri, Jyoti Prakash Mohanty alias Gudu (25) of Unit-IX, Chandan Dakua alias Kalia (25) of Nayapalli, Girish Naidu alias Bablu (22) of Palaspalli and Abhimanyu Das alias Niranjan (42) of Salia Sahi. The abductors had snatched the mobile phone and cash `1500 from Jha.
While, Mishra and Jyoti are final year BTech students of a City based college, Naidu is a Plus II student of college in the city. Dakua was working as a driver for Water Resources Department in Cuttack. We have seized the four-wheeler used in the crime along with two motorcycles and four mobile phones of the miscreants, Khandagiri police said.
The mastermind of the kidnap, Debashish, is an acquaintance of Jha and is on the run. The abduction was pre-planned as the absconding man’s wife had called Jha some time before the incident on the pretext of getting details about the college he was studying in. When Jha went to meet her, the miscreants who were already present there, kidnapped him, police added.Debashish was earlier arrested by Airfield Police on charges of fraud, said police sources.
