NOIDA: Following district magistrate B N Singh's directive on Thursday to avoid the use of fire crackers/bombs during Diwali festival, the RWA federation has sent out a circular to all residential RWAs to ensure intimation and generate awareness to that effect.
"District Magistrate, Gautam Budh Nagar B N Singh has desired that we may request all residential RWAs to organize meetings in the respective sectors to take an oath by all residents to ensure avoiding the use of fire crackers/bombs during Diwali festival. We have therefore, requested all sector RWAs to organise the desired meetings in their respective sectors to ensure that the DM's directives are fulfilled with desired results," said N P Singh president Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA).
Singh adds that the said move comes with the ultimate aim to prevent air and noise pollution and thus help in up-keeping a healthy environment in the city. "Let us celebrate the festival in its true spirit of brotherhood and jubilation without any health hazard to residents of the city especially the vulnerable such as elderly and children," said Singh.
Every year thousands of children and senior citizens report breathing troubles including increased asthma during Diwali. "Excessive use of firecrackers and the fumes generated from them are the major cause of air pollution in the city during Diwali - the festival of lights. It is to keep a check on these pollutants that the DM has had to issue such an order which we are committed to follow," said A N Dhawan, secretary general FONRWA.
