Official sources told India Today that a joint team of police, army and CRPF laid a cordon-and-search operation in Bellow village following inputs about the presence of some militants.
Soon after the cordon-off, locals took to streets and started hurling stones on forces, officials added.
"Police and CRPF fired tear smoke shells to disperse them," the officials said.
Meanwhile, a house belonging to Gh Ahmad Dar caught fire during the clashes.
SSP Pulwama Mohd Aslam Choudhary, while confirming the incident, told India Today that they have launched the cordon-off operation in the area following inputs about the presence of some militants.
"A house also caught fire which is situated outside the cordon area," SSP said.
He said investigations has been launched to ascertain the cause of fire incident.
