Wheelies: Minors held, parents booked

BENGALURU: A group of minors who performed stunts on two-wheelers on the streets to shoot videos and upload them on social media were detained by the police. Their parents too were booked by Banaswadi traffic police on Friday. Banaswadi traffic inspector Prabhakar was injured while trying to nab them.

According to police, five minor boys were involved in performing wheelies at odd hours in many places including the busy NICE Road and Outer Ring Road. Police had received complaints about them and a team was formed to look into the matter. The Banaswadi traffic police, who were on the lookout for the minors, detained the five boys performing stunts with modified bikes.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) R Hithendra said, “These boys were involved in wheeling for thrills and to shoot high quality photos and videos to post them on social media sites to gain popularity. In all, seven motorcycles were seized and five vehicle owners were arrested. The five juveniles were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board while four others are absconding. The parents who were arrested are Sampath Kumar, Syed Umraz Pasha, Syed Akram Babajan, Mohammed Nizam and Syed Ishtiyaq Alam.

The juveniles were counselled and produced before the Board for further action, while their fathers were arrested under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.The traffic police have launched a drive against minors driving vehicles across the city.
