A Samajwadi Party (SP) delegation met Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik today to draw attention towards what they termed "dismal law and order" situation in the state.
Led by state unit chief, Naresh Uttam, the delegation complained that innocents were being killed in fake encounters in the name of curbing crime, SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said.
A memorandum was handed over to the governor stressing that development had come to a standstill, there was fear among the minorities and insecurity among traders, women and students, Chaudhary said.
The memorandum also alleged that the writ of BJP leaders was running in police stations, according to Chaudhary.
The Governor assured effective action on the complaints, he added.
