Mumbai: Western Railway commuters staged a rail roko today at Naigaon station in Mumbai. The strike was since the 7.50 am Virar-Andheri and other trains had been cancelled in morning. As a result, the traffic on the Virar-Churchgate line was also disrupted.
Due to the protest, the Western Railways trains in the morning were running over half an hour late as people got on to the tracks at Naigaon, and the Andheri-Virar local had to be cancelled. Rail traffic was severely affected, but services have now been restored.

During the chaos though passengers said they were not getting any information from the railways, even as peak hour trains were cancelled. Virar-Vasai-Naigaon is an extremely crowded belt as thousands take the train daily towards Andheri and Churchgate.
In somewhat positive news, the new trains are arriving soon and the schedule of trains could improve, according to reports.
On October 5, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray had held a protest against poor infrastructure of Railways at Churchgate station, in which thousands of people participated. The rally was called due to the Elphinstone road station stampede in which 23 people died and nearly 40 were injured.
