CBI dedicated to removing corruption has caught a crorepati peon alleged to have disproportionate assets. Biswajit Biswas, a peon at a post office in West Bengal’s Malda district possess assets beyond any justification. Biswas had a total property of Rs 8 lakh in 2008. Even though his income was increased to Rs 12 lakh on papers in between 2008 and 2017, it is nearly impossible to make a saving of Rs 7 lakhs in this short time. It implies that Biswas managed his expenses from 2008 to 2017 in only Rs 5 lakhs.
The investigating agency was shocked to find that the peon owns a palatial house worth Rs 1.62 crore in Malda’s Bulbulchandi village that was built in 2012. A deed of Rs 3.03 lakh was found in 2012, while another deed of Rs 1.49 lakh was recovered again the same year. When questioned about the huge amount of wealth, Biswas could not give any satisfactory reply to the investigating team.
This was not all he had. Other than a palatial house and other deeds, Biswas had bought a spa center and a beauty parlor worth Rs 4.3 lakh. He along with his wife poses several bank accounts and safety deposits. According to CBI, this amount of property cannot be earned by any person with the income Biswas had unless the person has the black money or is involved in corruption.
