UP: SHO touches feet of Sangeet Som, officials seek report

SHO of Sardhana police station has landed in trouble after his video got viral on the social media in which he can be seen touching the feet of controversial BJP MLA Sangeet Som during a programme in the town.

Taking notice of the video clip, senior police officials are seeking report about the incident to initiate action against the police officer.

Sources said, Sangeet Som was invited in Ramlila programme in his constituency Sardhana on September 29 where SHO Dharmendra Rathore was also present. As the MLA honoured him by presenting him a souvenir, the SHO touched his feet to seek his blessings. A video clip of the incident was made and was uploaded on the social media after a week, said sources. It got viral and the matter was also brought to the notice of the senior police officials, ADG of Meerut zone Prashant Kumar and SSP Manzil Saini.

The officials said they have come to know about the video and SHO’s conduct was wrong. They said appropriate action would be initiated against the SHO after seeking an explanation.

Commenting over the issue, Rajpal Singh, district president of Samajwadi Party, said, “The incident has proved that police stations are being run by MLAs of the ruling party. How common men could expect justice from police under such circumstances?” He demanded that SHO should be immediately suspended.
