Cong has space in anti-communal front: Kanam

Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Kanam Rajendran has said that there is no reason to keep Congress out of the anti-communal front at the national level.

Replying to questions at a news conference here on Saturday, Mr. Rajendran said the CPI was for all democratic and secular parties coming together in the fight against communalism. Any such link with the Congress need not be seen as a political alliance. The issue would have greater clarity once the 22nd Party Congress of the CPI(M) and the 23rd Party Congress of the CPI were over, he added.

Mr. Rajendran came down heavily on the BJP for what he termed its leaders’ attempts to defame the people of Kerala with the baseless charge that Kerala was the land of ‘jihadis.’ Such statements were completely irresponsible and did not merit any reply.

The LDF government was engaged in a serious effort to find solutions to the State’s developmental challenges while at the national level, the NDA rule had ruined the country’s economy. The attacks on the LDF in Kerala was only intended to cover up the failures of the BJP at the national level, he said.

The CPI leader was confident that the LDF would improve its performance at Vengara. On his party’s stand towards the BDJS, Mr. Rajendran said the LDF had come to power fighting against the positions taken by parties such as the BDJS and, as such, he did not see any reason to welcome such parties into the LDF fold.

On the possible entry of the Kerala Congress (Mani) into the LDF, he said the ruling alliance had not invited applications from anyone.
