FIFA U-17 World Cup, Brazil vs Spain, full football score: BRA 2-1 ESP

Kochi’s first match of the FIFA U-17 World Cup was also probably the biggest of the group stage as Brazil took on Spain in a Group D match at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium. Spain took an early lead through a Wesley own goal and it seemed like Spain would cruise to a win. However, Brazil’s Lincoln equalised for the South American team. This goal seemed to galvanise Brazil and the continued to attack Spain, pushing the U-17 European champions on the back foot. Their attacking intent was rewarded as Paulinho gave them the lead just before half-time. His goal was enough to seal the game for Brazil despite Spain’s best attempts at a goal in the second half. The enthusiasm for the opening match in Kochi has been evident from the fact that tickets for the game had been sold out last week, although the stadium’s capacity has been reduced from 41,000 to 29,000 due to security reasons.

With both sides being the pre-tournament favourites for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, them being drawn in the same group makes things much more interesting.
