Kochi’s first match of the FIFA U-17 World Cup was also probably the biggest of the group stage as Brazil took on Spain in a Group D match at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium. Spain took an early lead through a Wesley own goal and it seemed like Spain would cruise to a win. However, Brazil’s Lincoln equalised for the South American team. This goal seemed to galvanise Brazil and the continued to attack Spain, pushing the U-17 European champions on the back foot. Their attacking intent was rewarded as Paulinho gave them the lead just before half-time. His goal was enough to seal the game for Brazil despite Spain’s best attempts at a goal in the second half.
