Palm tree crashes onto motorcyclists

Vasco: Two staffers of Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) were injured after a coconut tree came crashing down on the road at Sancoale on Saturday afternoon.

Ramesh Kunkalkar and Puttu Gaonkar were returning home to Chimbel on a motorcycle, when the tree collapsed on the vehicle.

People rushed to their aid as both of them lay unconscious, while traffic came to a halt. Later, the duo was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.

The incident occured at a time when there was heavy traffic movement along the stretch. Locals fear that more incidents could occur as the soil has turned unstable owing to felling of a number of trees in the area.
