Bishop Verghese Chakkalakkal of the Calicut diocese has called for a comprehensive investigation into the fire that broke out at the Holy Redeemer Church at Marikunnu in the city.
The fire broke out at the church’s main entrance on Thursday night. The fire, which was brought under control immediately by the fire force with the help of local residents, damaged religious icons near the gate.
Though the fire force and the police suspect short circuit or candle flames to be the cause of the fire, the authorities are investigating other angles too.
Bishop Chakkalakkal has urged the authorities to carry out an in-depth probe so that the real cause could be revealed.
